Plans are well under way now for our 10th Anniversary International Folkdance Festival. Groups from Norway, Germany, Italy, Slovakia and Spain have agreed to attend and perform.

Celtic Roots made history in July 2003 when they hosted the first International Folk Dance festival in County Wexford. Six groups from Norway, Sweden, Finland (2 groups), Germany and Slovakia attended the festival.

Through participation in other folk dance festivals throughout Europe, dancers from Celtic Roots have had the benefit of learning and joining in traditional dances from Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, France, Holland, Spain, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Mexico! The folk dance festival circuit is a perfect opportunity to experience the cultures of other countries on a very personal level, and great life-long friendships are made through that universal language of dance.

Over 200 folk dancers performed daily displays of traditional European folk dance in their national costume at various venues throughout the South-east and a gala performance of the Irish dance show “From the Mists of Time” was performed for our guests by Celtic Roots.

In addition to the performances and dances, Celtic Roots introduced the visitors to our beautiful county and to our unique Irish Culture and heritage visiting such places as the National Heritage Park, Kilkenny Castle and Johnstown Castle.

Let's hope our festival in 2008 is as successful.
